This large bedroom/sitting room/office is done in the “shabby chic” style, which uses elements of English cottage and French styles, creating a florally colorful and comfortable retreat. My color scheme is based on soft pink and blue pastels, with many touches of white. The container is a 15″ by 11″ commercially built display unit/room box, which I painted and papered. Behind the faux window is an outdoor scene on paper that makes you feel like you are actually looking out a window.
There are some artisan made pieces in here, plus some commercially made items, but there are quite a few things I made myself. The quilts and matching pillows were made from kits. I took an older brown bed and repainted it white and aged it. I also painted a number of the china display pieces, put together some of the framed pictures and the wooden tray, and made the vanity perfume tray with jewelry findings and beads. And finally, I added a cat carrier and ball of yarn for the kitty hiding in a gift box in the back corner, hoping the dog doesn’t see her.
