Glasgow Room Box

Nina Fair , 2021

This room box depicts what a woman’s “She Shed” might have looked like around the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.  It contains a large number of artisan pottery pieces in and on various distressed wood hutches and cabinets.  There is also a potting bench with plantings in the works, a hand-painted worktable and chairs, as well as crates of fresh vegetables and fruits.  It is a rather eclectic collection, but just right for the time when gardening and natural crafts were at the height of fashion.

The pottery items were made by some wonderful IGMA artists, and I painted an unfinished table and chairs similar to ones I had seen.  And, of course, this woman has a number of pets in her “studio” which is how I imagine it would be.  Everything is housed in a vintage wooden Black and White Blended Scotch Whiskey crate. which originally came from James Buchanan & Co., Ltd., of Glasgow, Scotland (hence the name “Glasgow Room Box”).
