This room box actually sits on top of my colonial kitchen room box, and is supposed to be the upstairs of the house. It is set around 1800, and features what I imagine such a room might have looked like at the time. There is a large bed with curtains to keep out the chill, which I made from an unfinished wooden dollhouse bed, a fireplace, storage trunks, and plenty of quilts. Babies in cradles would also have been in the bedroom where their mother slept.
The large hand painted storage chest is one that might have been brought by the family when they emigrated from Europe, and there is a needlework fireplace screen for the summer. Many of the items are one of a kind artisan made pieces, and they are housed in an old wooden crate, to further evoke the idea of a very old setting.
