It’s more of a challenge to put together a smaller scale room box than it is to furnish a 1:12 standard dollhouse scale one, because the pieces are tinier and harder to handle. (Even more difficult to work on smaller scales than this one!)
This is actually a two space living area – kitchen and living room combined, all housed in a 12″ by 4″ by 3″ vintage wooden cheese box, still imprinted with the company details on the outside. This one was from a 5 pound block of Mel-O-Bit White American Cheese, distributed by The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company (A&P).
Most of the furniture pieces, as well as a number of the accessories, are artisan crafted, with an eclectic mix of styles. The shelf units and bucket bench came unpainted, and I finished them and added the contents, many of which are fancy beads that look like works of art. The kitchen appliances are 3-D printed, and I added a few touches. There are various wicker items, all handmade, as well as a vintage looking “tin” on the table that is made from cardstock. The planter on the right is an antique china/porcelain piece from Germany.
