This is the third of three small dollhouses that I bought at an auction and then renovated. The previous contents had been glued in, the house was originally done in pastels, and I wanted a totally different look – very rustic. The former owner had created a nice chateau-style building, complete with gingerbread trim and porches. The whole roof had been shingled and the wood on the outside of the house was made of a sort of beadboard, laid on its side. I repainted the shingles black, and the house a dark forest green with barn red accents. On the inside, I painted the downstairs the same forest green (do you see the theme?), papered the upstairs over some old wallpaper that was in there, and used dollhouse real wood flooring on both levels.
For the contents, I have included artisan pieces and commercial items. I had an unfinished sink/hutch that I painted a light green and added a floral motif on the large drawer. I also used the same color on the unfinished kitchen chairs, as well as the top of the old ice box, that I had painted off-white previously. On the upstairs porch are an adirondack chair that I painted and a flower arrangement that I put together in a metal planter.
There are still a few finishing touches that need to be done on this project, but for now it’s a cute reminder of late summer in the mountains.
