The Needlework Shop

Nina Fair , 2025

The Needlework Shop is housed in a small dollhouse that I found at an auction.  I painted and papered it, and added real wood dollhouse flooring, trimmed with a baseboard.  The attic workspace is papered with what looks like old newspaper, as many old homes used to use, and that floor is also covered with real wood slats, but more rustic than the main floor.  Many of the items are commercially made 1:12 scale pieces, but there are a few artisan made things, such as the large white pine display cabinet on the front left wall, which is by Geddes Perkins.  There is a beautiful lacemaker’s bobbin in the corner cabinet, a handmade scissors holder and a cute little seat with a cushion in the attic, but I don’t know the names of the artists.  I had a lot of fabric pieces from other projects, so I used a variety to make all the bolts of fabrics.

In the attic, the proprietor has been working on making a dress, and her fabric with a pattern pinned on is on her sewing table.  She also has a Chrysnbon dressmakers form and an ironing board, plus a comfortable rocking chair for breaks.
