I call this a room box, but I think technically it is a diorama, since it is housed in a space only 6″ deep. The front is 14″ by 11″, but the depth would only render it 6 feet deep if it were full size. This den has items for all sorts of activities, including games, books, gift wraps and fabrics in the cupboard, two sewing boxes and a desk.
There are a number of artisan pieces, as well as a few I made myself, including the tiny painted slate heart on the wall and one of the floral arrangments. I also painted an unfinished mantle clock that really works, and made the tiny (1:144 scale) diorama on top of the cupboard inside an antique tin.
The seaman’s chest on the left was made by Geddes Perkins, and is a replica of one belonging to Christopher Wyer on the whale ship Lima, sailing in from Nantucket Island in 1815.
Also, a few items in this room came from Scotland – the horse brasses on a leather strap, the pheasant on the wall shelf and the sprig of thistle on the wall shelf.
