Blue Porch Vignette in an Antique First Aid Box

Nina Fair , 2023

I had an antique German wooden first aid box that belonged to my grandfather when he was involved with the German equivalent of The Red Cross as a teenager in the early 20th century, and decided to turn it into a rustic porch vignette.  This 9″ by 7″ scene includes mostly artisan made items, and I made several of the accessories myself from purchased or found objects.

Much of the pottery featured is by IGMA artist Jane Graber, and there are also a few pieces by Sugar Loaf Pottery and Tiny Wren Pottery.  Donna Harrington’s wormwood shelf on the wall has some accessories that were added by Lucy Pannute, and the cupboard is from CJ’s Minis.  I bought an unfinished chair and embellished it based on a similar one I had seen.  I also tried my hand at some floral arrangements – the pot on the top right of the cupboard was unfinished pottery that I painted, and added flowers.  Also, I used tiny flowers from our yard that I dried and put into the basket sitting on the floor.  The birdhouse was also handmade, but I do not know by whom.
