When I was a teenager, I worked part time in my cousin’s bakery, which offered a wonderful variety of foods, from delicious breads and rolls to fresh donuts, pastries and cookies. There were also various cakes, and sometimes even a wedding cake. This depiction includes many sculpted cakes, desserts and breads, mostly made in the UK by artisans. The sign was handmade for me in the Netherlands, and I painted some of the furniture to make it look a little worn. There is a little Hummel style baker sitting on the counter, and the cash register reminded me of the one we had in the bakery. I didn’t really have a specific era in mind for this room box, but it could be almost any time in the 20th century.
